Easter 2009 Football Camp
MasterClass Football Camp report
Easter 2009 - Over 80 players attend!
There was once again a great turn out for the highly acclaimed Masterclass Football camp in association with Tunbridge Wells Foresters FC with over 80 5 to 12 year old footballers from not only Foresters but other surrounding clubs joining together on two April mornings in Tunbridge Wells.
MasterClass Head Coach, Barrie Pickett said “the success of the camp was down to ensuring all players had fun and enjoyed all aspects of the drills they participated in” he went on; “Because there are so many coaches on hand to assist the players, they could be split into abilities to further enhance the complexity and intensity of training rather than making each session too generic; this way all players are challenged to raise their standards. There were never more than 12 players per coach and each in their own year group too; this was a clear benefit to them” said Pickett.

Day 1
The players warmed up as a group and then went off with a coach. The session was set out in a rotating drill course, where each group of players had a variety of different disciplines to work through. These included; speed/agility, dribbling, control/touch, passing and shooting. The heighlight of of the day must have been the speed gun measuring all the players (and some coaches!!) shooting power - YOU CAN SEE ALL THE PLAYERS RESULTS ON OUR HOT SHOTS PAGE. Judging by the parent’s reaction on the morning of day 2 the first day was a huge success. One father noted “my son had a great time yesterday. When I went into his room this morning he was putting his football kit on ready to go, I cann't beleve how excited he was at the thought of coming back for a second day”!!

Day 2
The second day would see all the players again split up in to their relevant age groups and were sent off to work with the same coach all session. After a rigorous warm up the players worked through “game-like scenario” drills utilising the skills they had learnt on day 1. Judging by what I saw they worked this well and by the end of each drill you could see the results of their hard work paying off. At the end of the drill sessions each group played matches to put into practice what they had learned over both days.

After the matches finished all the players were awarded with Medals, Certificates, sweets and Hats. The customary group photo was taken before the players left.

It was a privilege to work with all the players on the course, their attitude and application was exceptional and a real credit to their parents.
Finally, I would like to thank Paddy Adams, David Card, Tom Pepper, Alex Kibey, Chris Baker, Mick Baker, Andy Smith and Lee Horlock for all their hard work over the two days...... roll on the next one!
WELL DONE AND KEEP PRACTICING
